The North Dakota 4-H Camp has been committed to providing overnight educational experiences to youth for over 40 years.
Programs are designed to:
- develop skills for safe and healthful living
- enhance personal development
- provide constructive uses of leisure time and
- develop new social networks.
We are committed to providing a safe environment where youth can make new friends and develop new skills while enjoying the beauty of the cottonwoods along the Missouri River.
STAFFING
During the summer camping season, the North Dakota State 4-H Camp employs a camp cook and counselors. In addition, the youth camps are facilitated by various local county Extension agents and volunteers from across the state.
All camp staff, Extension staff and volunteers are required to pass a Youth Protection background check. The camp maintains a ratio of one counselor to ten campers, as outlined by the American Camping Association. Our counselors participate in a week long camp training in May including CPR/First Aid training.
FACILITIES
The camp has three rustic sleeping cabins which house approximately 30 guests per cabin. Each cabin contains heat, bunk beds, indoor bathrooms and shared shower facilities.
The main lodge is home to the dining facilities for the camp. It can seat approximately 200 people or provide for an empty gathering space for a variety of functions. The main lodge is a commercial kitchen and equipped for large-scale food preparation.
Other amenities include:
- a gaga dodge ball court
- outdoor BBQ pit and two campfire ring
- outdoor riding area and arena
- amphitheatre-style outdoor chapel
- outdoor walking trail
The spacious grounds at the camp provide the opportunity for hiking, canoing, sports camps, fishing , tenting, and shooting sports.

Camps are open to all youth, ages 5-18. Please check the age requirements of all camps before registering your child. Unless otherwise noted, all camps begin at 4:00 p.m. (CST) and end at 11:00 a.m. (CST) Camper discounts are available for early registration. LOCATION
The North Dakota State 4-H Camp is located on roughly 80 acres of wooded riverfront property 1.5 miles west of Washburn, ND. The scenic campgrounds are strategically located between the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center and historic Fort Mandan along the Missouri River.
