The State 4-H Dairy Judging contest is a competition where individuals or teams judge a class of 4 to 6 dairy cattle. The participants must present a set of oral reason to the judge on why you chose your rankings in three of the classes.
Open to all youth 8-18 years old. The two age divisions are Junior Division (age 8-13) and Senior Division (age 13-18). Thirteen year-olds may judge in either division. In order to be eligible for the national dairy judging contest, participants must be 14 by January 1st.
The contest is open to all interested youth. Participants must be enrolled in North Dakota 4-H members to receive state 4-H dairy judging contest awards. 4-H team scores will be determined from the top three individual scores from a county team.
A county may enter any number of participants. Up to 3 counties may join to make a team provided that none of the counties involved have more than two members in that age division.
Members of past winning 4-H teams in the senior division (three high scores) or members of teams that have participated in a national 4-H dairy judging contest are not eligible for 4-H awards, but are welcome to participate.
Hippology is a 4-H equine event for club, county and state participation that covers all areas of horsemanship. Emphasis is placed on knowledge of the animal in areas of health breeds, tack, nutrition, care, training and more.

This contest is open to 4-H members and registered through your local extension office. Each county may enter teams of four members in each of the junior and senior divisions. Up to three counties may combine to make a team provided that none of the counties involved have more than two members participating in hippology in the age division. Substitutions may be made at the time of the contest.
