Gerontology Certificate Program

Gerontology is an emerging area in which graduate training has not been readily available. The Gerontology Graduate Certificate is especially valuable to professionals who need more advanced coursework in this area but do not need a Masters degree, or those who alredy have a Masters degree but would like more specific training in Gerontology. The Gerontology Certificate is a collaborative, inter-institutional program offered by web-based distance education. The 21-credit certificate program includes the five courses indicated below (15 credits).
  1. CDFS 790 Seminar: Perspectives in Gerontology

  2. CDFS 660 Adult Development and Aging

  3. CDFS 722 Applied Research in Gerontology

  4. HNES 652 Nutrition, Health, and Aging

  5. CDFS 790 Seminar: Professional Seminar in Gerontology

Two additional courses are required (six credits). These can be selected from the remaining Masters option core:

  1. CDFS 760 Aging Policy

  2. CDFS 682 Family Dynamics of Aging

  3. ADFH 696 Aging and the Environment

Or from electives approved by your advisor. Students can take a maximum of 3 credits of practicum in the Certificate program.
