FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

 PREPARING FOR ARRIVAL

Should I make housing arrangements before I arrive?

Yes.  A housing application is included with the admission and orientation materials that we send.  Housing applications for on-campus housing, including apartments, can also be accessed from the NDSU Residence Life website at www.ndsu.edu/reslife

Do I have to live on-campus during my first year?

All students under the age of 19 are required to live on-campus.  If you are age 19 or over, you are not required to live on-campus.  However, during your first year at NDSU, we highly recommended that students live on-campus in order to be familiar with campus life and to meet new people.

What should I bring with me?

You should bring clothing, personal items, and an alarm clock.  You may also want to bring music with you as well as favorite family pictures or cultural things from home.

Is Internet access available in the residence halls on-campus?

All of the residence halls are wired for Internet access.  In addition, NDSU has several computer clusters with almost 500 computers.  There is a computer cluster in the IACC with 24-hour service.  Wireless Internet access is also available in many buildings on NDSU’s campus.

Is there an airport in Fargo?

Yes.  Fargo is home to Hector International Airport.  It is only a 5 minute taxi ride from NDSU’s campus.  There are many flights per day between Fargo and the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, Chicago O’Hare International Airport, and Denver International Airport.

Will someone pick me up at the airport in Fargo?

Yes.  As part of the orientation and admission materials, we include an “Airport Arrival Form” which we ask you to complete no later than one week prior to your arrival.  Once we receive that form, we arrange for someone to pick you up at the airport or bus station in Fargo.
