Final Arrangements

Passports and Visas
After having been accepted for admission to North Dakota State University, students will receive a letter notifying them of their acceptance. Students will receive the Form SEVIS I-20 Certificate of Eligibility for non-immigrant "F" student status or Form DS2019 for sponsored student "J" status. In addition to obtaining a passport, a student must also procure a visa from a United States Consulate. This visa stipulates that the student is coming to the United States for the purpose of study and is expected to return to his/her respective country after completion of the academic program.

Vaccination Records
All students must bring with them original or certified copies of their records of vaccinations for communicable disease (diphtheria, measles, rubella, whooping cough, tetanus, polio) in order to be allowed to register. For those students who have lived within the past 5 years in a country where tuberculosis (TB) is endemic, documentation is required of TB screening within 6 months prior to college entrance. Questions concerning this requirement should be directed to the Student Affairs Office, North Dakota State University, P.O. Box 5596, Fargo, ND 58105-5596, USA. TB screening also is available during orientation. You will not be permitted to register for classes until you show documentation of TB screening.

Transportation and Arrival
Fargo is served by Northwest and United Express airlines. Transfer to these airlines can occur at most U.S. airports. Greyhound Bus Lines maintains a Fargo terminal. AmTrak provides intercity rail passenger service and has a depot in Fargo. Taxi service from the airport to the university should cost about $18.

Students should plan to arrive in Fargo one day prior to registration/orientation day. As soon as their travel itinerary is known, students should e-mail or write to the Office of International Programs giving the time and place of arrival. Airport pickup can be arranged if a student gives sufficient notice.

Upon arrival, students should call or go to the Office of International Programs if it is during business hours. The office is located on campus in Ceres Hall, Room 338, and is open between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. (June, July, and August office hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.) Telephone number is (area code 701) 231-7895. Students arriving at other times should follow the preparation for arrival instructions sent with the immigration document and go to a nearby hotel or motel via taxi. They can call the International Office as soon as it opens the next business day.
