Friendship Family Program
The Office of International Programs sponsors the Friendship Family
Program (FFP). The FFP is an NDSU-based program that seeks to provide
Fargo/Moorhead residents with the opportunity to learn about other
cultures by developing friendships while helping NDSU international
students adjust to and learn about American culture.
Friendship Family hosts are matched with international students
for one academic year beginning in the fall, or for the remainder
of that period if made mid-year. It is suggested that the host and
student get together at least once a month to keep their friendship
growing. The student does not live with the host; the host merely
acts as a contact and resource for the student. Hosting may include
a variety of activities, such as an invitation to dinner, sightseeing,
asking the student to join in the participation of local events
or celebrations, or whatever else may be helpful for the student
to understand life in the United States.
Speakers' Fair
The Speakers' Fair is a special event held annually at Fargo elementary
and junior high schools in which NDSU international students give
mini-presentations about their cultures and home countries to one
or more classes. The NDSU students really enjoy this event as it
provides them the opportunity to share aspects about their cultures
and countries. The Speakers' Fair is usually held during Spring
break.
International Speakers' Bureau
The International Speakers' Bureau is a group of international students
who give presentations about their cultures and home countries on
a request by request basis. Various community organizations or university
instructors sometimes want people from other countries to visit
a group/class to provide information about aspects of life in their
own countries. If you would be interested in having an NDSU international
student speak in one of your classes, contact the Office of International
Programs.
