Academic and Cultural Sharing Scholarship

The Academic & Cultural Sharing Scholarship offers international undergraduate students the ability to pay at 50% of the non-resident tuition rate, currently a savings of about $6,600 per year. This scholarship is available to all undergraduate international students who qualify for admission at North Dakota State University and hold F-1 student status.

Given the nature of the scholarship, recipients are expected to share their cultures with U.S. students, faculty, staff and members of the community in activities that are both academically and culturally beneficial. This will enable people to increase their knowledge of the cultures and countries where the scholarship recipients come from and gain a better sense of the global society.

Application and Requirements for receiving an Academic and Cultural Sharing Scholarship

Prospective international students are invited to apply for the Academic and Cultural Sharing Scholarship by completing the application. The application will be reviewed as soon as it is received and a decision will be made after you have been regularly admitted to North Dakota State University.

Once awarded, scholarships are renewable for the following year as long as the NDSU student maintains the following requirements:

  • Attend the entire International Student Orientation during your first semester at NDSU.
  • Hold F-1 student status (with a valid I-20).
  • Maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA (grade point average).
  • Register and maintain at least 12 undergraduate credits each semester.
  • Complete 20 hours of qualified academic and cultural sharing services. (See examples on our web page at www.ndsu.edu/International of qualified service.)
  • Report timely your service hours to the Office of International Programs (by the last day of finals each fall and spring semester).

Any student who loses the scholarship due to low GPA or lack of service hours may submit a written appeal to the OIP providing specific reasons why an appeal may be considered.

IMPORTANT NOTICE Because of the large number of students applying for the Academic and Cultural Sharing Scholarship and the limited number that NDSU is permitted to award each year, you should NOT count on the funding when filling out your Financial Certification form! If you are admitted to NDSU and are awarded a Scholarship, you will be notified by letter and your I-20 will reflect the amount of the award.
