LONDON & PARIS STUDY TOUR

ADFH 489:  Study Tour/ Europe

Dates:  May 27 - June 5, 2008

Credits:  3 undergraduate credits offered during Summer Session 2008

Description:  An immersive study in London and Paris with a focus on fashion.  Students will spend eight nights in London and Paris, visiting fashion design houses, trend forecasters, retail stores, costume museums, historic sites and theater.  Side trip to Versailles in France is included.  Pre-departure assignments are required.

Eligibility:  All students in good standing are eligible.

Application deadline:  January 31, 2008 is the application deadline.  Pick up an application in EML 178 or see following link: Application Form The application process includes a short written essay.  

Cost and Payment Schedule:

 

Cost:  The approximate cost for travel is $3100, plus 3 credits of undergraduate tuition.  Travel costs include round-trip airfare, all ground transportation in Europe, hotels, all breakfasts, all guided tours and entry fees for sites we visit as part of the course, transfer to and from the airport and rail station to the hotels, and a half-day sightseeing tour with guides in London and Paris.  The remainder of your meals, your passport, additional travel or site visits, and personal purchases are your responsibility.

Payment Schedule:  A $1000 deposit is due after you are accepted or by January 31, 2008.  The deposit holds your place on the trip.  A second payment of $1100 is due February 21.  The balance of $1100 is due March 30, 2008. 

Additional costs:  Tuition.  Passport.  Spending money for additional meals, activities or souvenirs.  Amount needed varies, $500 suggested.

Financial Aid

 You may use financial aid for study abroad programs, however, it generally take several months to process a request and you will need to apply well in advance.  Contact the Student Financial Services office at Ceres 202 for more information about financial aid.  There telephone number is 701-231-7533.

Four $500 scholarships will be available through the Patterson McClung study tour endowment.

NYC Study Tour: Summer 2007, 3 credits

Visit New York City!  Spend eight days and 7 nights,

May 15-22, 2007, in the Fashion Capital of the United States.  You will have the opportunity to visit:

    • Broadway Theatrical Production
    • Television Show
    • Seminars
    • Shop Madison & Fifith Avenue Stores

In October of 2006, our students travelled to Las Vegas to experience one of the largest retail industries ever!  The study tour focus was on "Fashion Accessories" and the itinerary included the following:

LA Study Tour: Summer 2006, 3 credits

Los Angeles is the destination! Enjoy 5 nights and 6 days in sunny California from May 23-28.  The tentative itinerary includes the following:

Paris/London Study Tour: Summer 2005, 3 credits

Students experienced the "Real World" of fashion and design.  They enjoyed ten days/nine nights touring Paris and London; two key international centers of commerce and fashion.  Visits included Harrods of London, Galeries Lafayette in Paris, design houses in both cities, and viewing some of the world's best costume collections.  Students gained a global perspective of the fashion industry and learned how individuals have charted their career paths.   Students completed a project and portfolio emphasizing the differences and similarities between American andEuropean practices in the fashion and retailing industries.
