Hospitality and Tourism

As the nation's number one retail employer, the hospitality industry needs thousands of new employees each year. Along with the rising demand for hospitality services is a growing emphasis on comfort, good service and nutrition, all of which increase the need for skilled professionals to manage people and meet the needs of today's consumers.

The hospitality and tourism industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the nation. According to the National Restaurant Association, the foodservice industry is expected to employ more than 12.8 million workers in the year 2007. This makes the food service industry the largest employer besides government. In the United States, 2.8 million rooms in hotels are occupied daily and hotel-keeping ranks seventh among service industries, coming only after such giants as public transportation and restaurant management.

The Hospitality and Tourism Management program at North Dakota State University is the only
four-year program in North Dakota accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration (ACPHA). The hospitality and tourism management (HTM) major can prepare you for one of these dynamic career paths with great opportunities for advancement.
