Description

As the campus grew, the old heating plant, which stood near Old Main, proved inadequate to the needs of the institution resulting in a new and much larger heat and power plant. The new building was 45x84 feet in size, with a storage capacity for about 400 tons of coal. All the buildings, including the farm house and the office and stock judging pavilion in the horse barn, were now heated from the central plant. No funds were appropriated for building purposes, leading the Emergency Board, after their review of the situation, to set apart $15,000 for the erection and equipment of the plant. Their plan was authorized by the Board of Trustees to proceed with the building. The total cost of the new heating plant was estimated at approximately $39,000 (Seventh Biennial Report of the Board of Trustees, NDAC, 1904, p.14)
