The African Women’s Health Initiative is an international nonprofit organization established to promote the well-being of African women and girls through research, education, public enlightenment, community mobilization, and advocacy programs. The headquarters is at North Dakota State University, Fargo, USA.
The African Women’s Health Initiative (AWHI) works organically with the African Women Development Initiative (AWDI) towards the up-liftment of African women, children, and families, our areas of interest are empowerment, self development, leadership, career growth, and civic engagement.
African women face many problems. Especially in medical care and health information. The worsening health conditions of women are the result of so many factors such as poverty, sanitation, education, wars and conflicts, spread of HIV/AIDS, poor infrastructure and population increase.
Taking a holistic approach to women’s health, AWHI is interested in the medical, spiritual, cultural, social, and psychological aspects of women’s well-being.
