TEACH Grant
What is it?
Through the College Cost Reduction Act, Congress created the Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Grant Program that provides grants of up to $4,000 per year to students who intend to teach full-time in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves students from low income families.
Will I have to pay it back?
If you fail to complete the 4 year teaching obligation within 8 years of completing or ceasing your program of study, your grant will convert to an Unsubsidized Stafford Loan which will have to be repaid with interest accrued from the date the grant funds were first disbursed. Once a TEACH Grant is converted to a loan, it cannot be converted back to a grant.
