Important Financial Aid Quick Checks

  1. Read the Award Notice sent to you, accept your award on Campus Connection, and return it to Student Financial Services.

  2. If you are borrowing your first Stafford Loan, you will need to select a lender (see Selecting a Lender/Guaranty Agency ).

  3. If you have borrowed a Stafford Loan before, use the same lender to avoid multiple payments when you leave school.

  4. If you wish to borrow money for summer school, you may want to reduce the amount of your academic year loan to reserve some for summer.

  5. Inform Student Financial Services if you will receive any resources not already listed on your award notice (i.e., tuition waiver, scholarship, etc.).

  6. Be prepared to submit signed copies of Federal Tax Returns and W-2 forms to Student Financial Services; they will be requested if you are selected for Verification.

  7. If you wish to apply for an Alternative Loan such as the SELF, DEAL, PLUS, Collegiate, Bremer Education, Citiassist or GOAL loan, go to Alternative Loans for information on application processes.

  8. If you are borrowing your first Stafford Loan, you will need to complete Entrance Loan Counseling. You may complete this requirement on the Internet at: www.mapping-your-future.org/oslc.

  9. If you accept a Stafford Loan on your Award Notice, and have not already completed a Master Promissory Note, your guarantor will be contacting you regarding the completion of this form.

  10. Remember that disbursement of aid is two to three weeks after classes begin. Bring enough money to school to cover your first month's expenses.

  11. If you wish to continue receiving financial aid in the future, please review the Standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress.
