In fulfilling graduation requirements, there are two sets of requirements to meet:
See the following link for specific undergraduate graduation requirements: Undergraduate Bulletin. See the "Academic Information and Regulations" section.
Please note that the Office of Registration and Records is responsible for tracking your degree progress and clearing you for graduation. Registration and Records is also responsible for upholding the established University policies and serves as a liaison to support and facilitate faculty advising activities.
Student Classification Defined:
Junior = 60-89 completed credits
Senior = 90+ completed credits
ALL FORMS MAY BE OBTAINED ONLINE on the
Registration Forms page.
A pre-paid Graduation Audit Request postcard is mailed to students after completing 75 credits (programs requiring higher credit totals to graduate will be sent the postcard after 95 credits are completed). Students must complete the postcard and submit it to the Office of Registration and Records by dropping the pre-paid postage card in any USPS mailbox or campus mail drop. (This form is NOT AVAILABLE ONLINE) Only one audit will be completed for each student on campus. If you have any questions concerning graduation audits, please contact the Office of Registration and Records and ask to speak with the college liaison for your major.
Students can expect an audit listing the requirements that are remaining for completion of their intended degree approximately two semesters prior to their intended graduation term, as long as the student submits the postcard for processing.
Students completing a minor must submit to the Office of Registration and Records a Minor Approval Form. This form must indicate the courses that make up the minor requirements as well as signatures of the academic advisor and the department chairperson. This form must be completed and turned in by mid-term of the semester in which the student intends to graduate.
Students, with the approval of the college department, may substitute or waive college-level requirements. This form must be completed with your academic advisor (with the authorization of the department chairperson) and submitted to the Office of Registration and Records for final processing. Please note that general education requirements cannot be waived or substituted. This form must be completed and turned in by the third week of the semester in which the student intends to graduate.
Students plan their educational pursuits differently and may opt to complete more than one major/minor/program option, etc. Due to this fact, students must declare their intent to graduate by submitting an Application for Undergraduate Degree form to the Office of Registration and Records by the third week of the planned semester of graduation.
Failure to apply by the third week may delay the awarding of the degree until the following semester. Failure to complete the required courses in time for a planned graduation will result in the student having to apply for the next graduation term.
A Commencement Participation letter is sent to
all students who have declared their intent to graduate (see
application information above). If students plan to participate in
the NDSU Commencement Exercises in the FargoDome at the end of
their final semester, they must complete and submit to the Office
of Registration and Records the Commencement Reservation
Card.
