Dr. Bitzan earned his doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he specialized in industrial organization and labor economics. He served as a transportation economist with the Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute and adjunct professor in agricultural economics before joining the College of Business.
