Have a Holly, Jolly Network: Networking at Holiday Parties
December is upon us, and Christmas is a mere three weeks away. In many places, snow is beginning to fly and commercials are filled with toys, elves, iPads, and Santa Claus.
Along with the delicious holiday treats come the holiday parties with friends and family. Many of these are people you only see a few times a year. Rather than slinking off to another room and watching A Christmas Story for the 138th time, use this as a chance to strike up new conversations and grow your network. Honestly, how many times can you hear, “You’ll shoot your eye out, kid,” and still laugh?
If you’re on the hunt for an internship or full-time position after the spring semester, don’t be afraid to let people know it. There’s nothing wrong with mentioning that you are seeking new opportunities. It is human nature to want to help friends and family, and people almost always jump at the chance to do so if they can.
