Graduate or Professional School Preparation

Is graduate school right for you? Consider the following:

  1. Do you have a clear idea of the career you want to pursue?
  2. Do you want to go to graduate school or are you being pushed by others?
  3. What can you do with your undergraduate degree? Be sure to explore your career options.
  4. Is graduate school worth the cost of tuition?

Do not choose graduate school because you are afraid of not finding a job,  because you don't want to find a job or are unsure of what your career interests are. In graduate school you will be expected to have clearly defined direction and goals.

Also, think about if it would benefit you to have a few years of work experience before beginning your graduate studies. In some fields, a student with a graduate degree who has had no real experience beyond internships will be at a disadvantage to those who have experience along with their graduate degree.

Clearly, making the decision to continue your education is a hard one. If you are thinking that attending graduate school is the route you wish to explore make sure you do your research and find a school/program that fits with your needs.

So, what's the next step?
