Dr. Altenburg teaches Management Information Systems (MIS) courses. His research interests include: investigations of the emergence of order in decentralized systems. The investigations involve collective robotics, animals, neural networks, and agent-based computer simulations.
In 2001, Dr. Altenburg was awarded the ND EPSCoR, Faculty Laboratory and Research Experience (FLARE), Autonomous Agent Communication for Dynamic Organizational Development. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers IEEE Computer Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science and the North Dakota State Academy of Science.
