Department of Accounting & Information Systems

The Department offers undergraduate majors in Accounting, Accountancy, and Management Information Systems. Our curricula are designed to meet the needs of employers today and our graduates are well prepared for a wide variety of careers. An advisory board made up of alumni and business representatives from regional firms provides advice and recommendations to the department.

 



Mission Statement

The mission of the Accounting and Information Systems Department is to provide high quality accounting and management information systems programs in a learning-centered environment that focuses on the needs of students and external stakeholders.

To support this mission, we are committed to excellence in:
Teaching;
Research and scholarly activities; and
Service to our College, University, and community.

We educate our students by:
Providing a curriculum that emphasizes core competencies needed in a business environment;
Providing opportunities for relevant work experience before graduation; and
Providing opportunities for interaction among students, faculty, and practitioners.



About

Students who complete a degree in accountancy are qualified to take the examination required to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Students complete a degree in accounting are qualified to take the examination required to become a Certified Managerial Accountant (CMA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).

The Management Information Systems major prepares students for a professional career in information processing. MIS majors develop technical skills necessary for the design, development, implementation, maintenance, and management of organizational information systems.
