Family Financial Planning Masters Program


Students Must:

  1. Successfully complete 42 semester credit hours.

  2. Maintain a minimum B average (accumulative).

  3. Complete a Practicum, Practicum and Master's Paper, or a Master's thesis.

Courses to complete for Masters Program:

CDFS 677: Family Financial Counseling - (3 credits)
CDFS 762: Retirement Planning, Employee Benefits and the Family - (3 credits)
CDFS 763: Personal Income Taxation - (3 credits)
CDFS 764: Family Economics - (3 credits)
CDFS 765: Insurance Planning for Families - (3 credits)
CDFS 766: Estate Planning for Families - (3 credits)
CDFS 767: Prof. Practices in Family Financial Planning - (3 credits)
CDFS 768: Housing/Real Estate - (3 credits)
CDFS 769: Financial Planning - Case Studies  - (3 credits)
CDFS 770: Fundamentals of Financial Planning - (3 credits)
CDFS 771: Investing for the Family's Future - (3 credits)
CDFS 781: Family Systems - (3 credits)

= 36 credit hours

(*Note: Each course is offered every year.)

During the final year of study, students choose from the following requirements:

  • 6 credits of practicum (CDFS 796) OR

  • 3 credits of practicum (CDFS 796) + 3 credits of Master’s paper (CDFS 797) OR

  • 6 credits of Master’s thesis (CDFS 798).

= 6 credit hours

This online graduate program is registered by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards.


Family Financial Planning Certificate Option


Students Must:

·         Complete 18 credits (6 online courses)

After Completion of Coursework:

·         Students are eligible to sit for the CFP® Certification Examination.
The CFP Board website at http://www.cfp.net provides information relating to CFP® Certification Examination.
