Master of Science in Civil EngineeringThe Master of Science degree is offered through graduate programs designed to advance the technical knowledge, interdisciplinary understanding, and competence of the engineer who wishes to prepare to meet the demands of today's advancing technology. Candidates are prepared to enter the profession or advance within the profession in areas of planning, design, analysis, or management for consulting engineers, governmental agencies, private industry, or contractors.

- Transportation Engineering
- Structural Engineering
- Geotechnical Engineering
- Engineering Mechanics
To complement the major areas of study, courses are often selected from mathematics, mechanical engineering, chemistry, and the life and biological science.
The graduate curriculum in Environmental Engineering offers a series of core courses designed to acquaint the student with engineering fundamentals as applied to the environment. These courses include water supply engineering, wastewater engineering, air pollution, hazardous waste, water quality management, and solid waste management. To complement the major are of study, courses are often selected from mathematics, mechanical engineering, chemistry, and the life and biological sciences.
The Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering (Ph.D.) degree program is specifically designed to provide the Civil Engineering student with an equal opportunity to contribute to the advancement of the civil engineering profession. Students in this program can focus on any one of the civil engineering specialty areas such as Environmental, Geotechnical, Materials, Structural, Transportation, or Water Resources. Students can also specialize in other interdisciplinary areas overlapping with the civil engineering discipline. The student's plan of study is tailored to individuals needs and interests.
Doctor of Philosophy in EngineeringThe Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering has been designed to provide the engineering student with a unique opportunity to contribute to the advancement of the engineering profession.
The program addresses the engineering profession's need for mature minds that can translate basic knowledge into practical solutions to the problems associated with our rapidly changing environment. This is accomplished through a unique integration of engineering science within a basic area of concentration.
The Ph.D. program is characterized as a truly interdisciplinary approach to engineering. A single, doctoral program for agricultural engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, and mechanical engineering provides students with both general knowledge and in-depth understanding of one major area of concentration. Students are able to construct individualized programs that emphasize areas of interest.
The individualized program consists of four functional groups.
- The cognate and minor area -- includes course work considered to be of special importance to the student's future progression in any of the other groups.
- Concentration group -- includes courses contributing to a specialization area.
- Core courses -- designed to meet a Ph. D. student's need to extend undergraduate introductions to a more complete mastering of engineering sciences common to all engineering disciplines.
- Student's dissertation makes up the fourth segment in the Ph. D. program.
