Writing Groups
The NDSU Center for Writers offers graduate writing groups each semester. Graduate students from any department or program whose dissertation/thesis/paper proposal has been approved and who are writing the dissertation/thesis/paper are eligible to apply. Participants will be selected based on screening criteria established by the Center for Writers.
These graduate writing groups will meet weekly (specific schedule to be determined). Students who anticipate multiple absences during the term are discouraged from applying, because all students will participate in each session. Each peer group will consist of 4-6 students and will focus on setting writing goals and achieving accountability in accomplishing writing tasks. Additional topics of discussion will be determined based on participant needs but may include such topics as overcoming writer’s block, revision strategies, integrating sources, and responding to feedback, among others. The Associate Director of the Center for Writers will serve as facilitator for the groups.
Students desiring line-by-line editing, instruction in grammar and mechanics, or assistance with development, organization, or style will not find these groups suited to their needs. Such students should contact the Center for Writers for information about one-on-one peer consulting or editors for hire.
