Graduate Programs
Thank you for your interest in the Chemistry, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology graduate program at NDSU. We are excited about the future of our program, and we hope that you will seriously consider NDSU as a place for graduate study. Presently, both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Chemistry are offered, with specializations in analytical, physical, organic, and inorganic chemistry. In addition, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Biochemistry are also now available.

A complete application consists of:
- The Application for Admission to Graduate School form, which is also your application for financial assistance in the form of a Teaching Assistantship. Please indicate whether you are applying for the Chemistry or Biochemistry program.
- Reasons for Graduate Study Statement. Please indicate your desired area of study: Organic, Inorganic, Analytical, Physical, Biochemistry, or undecided. (Multidisciplinary interests are also encouraged, but please state the major areas of study).
- Three letters of recommendation from individuals able to comment on you're academic and research potential.
- An official transcript from all institutions of higher education that you have attended.
- Test score results for the GRE General examination. Although it is not required, students are also encouraged to also take the GRE Subject exam (in Chemistry or Biochemistry).
Additional requirements for International Students: Test results for the TOEFL examination. Teaching Assistantships are restricted to applicants with TOEFL iBT scores of 81 or above (min subscores of 23 speak and 21 write). Minimum scores for the paper-based exam are 555 and assistantships for applicants with the older exams are also contingent upon passing the Test of Spoken English (TSE) exam once arriving at NDSU. Research Assistantships require an iBT score of 71 or above.
