  • Trisha (Mattern) Helgeson, MBA ’98, business administration, joined Starion Financial as the marketing and communications manager at the bank’s Mandan, N.D., location. March 2014
  • Mark Jensen, BS ’94, business administration and economics, MBA ’95, business administration, was promoted to vice president/credit risk officer at Western State Bank of West Fargo. March 2014
  • Rena Stenseth, BS ’99, business administration, joined Choice Financial in Fargo as director of human resources. March 2014
  • Donna J. Bye, BLA ’98, landscape architecture, received the Western Planning Association 2013 Western Planner of the Year award at the annual conference held in Lake Tahoe, Nev. The organization includes 13 states. She has been the planner for the city of Minot since 2001. February 2014
  • Andrew John Bjur, BArch ’99, architecture, was among first list of "5 Under 40" published in the West Central Tribune. The inaugural group was recognized for their leadership, professional contributions and community involvement in the Willmar, Minn., area. January 2014
  • Vicki (Thorstad) Schlenker, BS ’94, accounting, was hired as director of finance for the Catholic Charities North Dakota in Fargo. January 2014
  • Wade Boeshans, BS ’95, civil engineering, was promoted to president of BNI Coal. He had been general manager of BNI, a subsidiary of Allete, since 2009. He was hired by BNI in 2005 as an assistant mine manager and was later promoted to operations manager. He lives in Washburn, N.D. January 2014
  • Eric A. Johnson, BS ’91, mass communication, retired from the North Dakota Air National Guard, marking the end of a 29-year military career. He was named the Air National Guard Videographer of the Year in 1998, received the Air Combat Command Superior Performer Award in 2004 and was named Defense Video and Imagery Distribution System Journalist of the Month in April 2011. He’s also received more than 20 Air Force and Air National Guard multimedia awards.  January 2014
  • Brenda (Dockendorf) Wyland, BS ’99, facility management, was named to Prairie Business magazine’s “40 Under 40” list, which honors outstanding business professionals in the region. She was recognized in the “Rising to the Top” story in the December issue of the publication. She is director of marketing for Appareo Systems LLC in Fargo. She joined Appareo after serving as interim executive director at NDSU’s Research and Technology Park. December 2013
  • Mark Strong, BS ’93, electrical and electronic engineering, was named vice president of research and development for HeartWare International Inc., based in Framingham, Mass. At HeartWare, he leads the company’s research and development efforts in the area of miniaturized implantable heart pumps or ventricular assist devices. He previously was a vice president for the Boston Scientific Corp. Cardiac Rhythm Management business unit. October 2013
