When can go-live happen
Due to the nature of go-live and the resources required, we
cannot field requests for migration until approximately 2 weeks
after CMS version 1.1 is launched.
You may submit your request to go live through the ITS Help
Desk at any time, but please understand that it will not be
completed until some time beginning approximately 2 weeks after CMS
version 1.1 launch.
Request - what to include
When submitting your request, you must include
- site's current URL
- URL for the live site (e.g. www.ndsu.edu/its)
- an indication of whether we can migrate the site during
business hours. Due to the coordination required between multiple
working groups, a slight outage can occur when migration occurs
- during business hours there is a potential for up to 15
minutes of time when the site will be unavailable
- during a standard outage period (Thursdays 5-7AM or
Sundays 8-12AM) there is a potential for the site to be
unavailable for anywhere from 15 minutes up to several hours.
There is also a minimum lead time of 3 business days to
schedule outages so your request would need to be submitted
sufficiently in advance to schedule the outage
- The preferred time window/date for migration (if applicable).
Note that we cannot guarantee this date but will make our best
efforts to coordinate the migration during the time window of
your choice. If you care strongly that it occur at a specific
time, please provide instruction on what action we should take
(or not take) if a situation occurs that prevents us from
migrating at your chosen time--for example, should we abort and
re-schedule or may we continue with migration once the situation
is resolved?
After go-live
After your site is live under www.ndsu.edu, changes include
- The login URL for authoring content will be the "workspaces"
login as indicated for "All www.ndsu.edu sites"
- The fileadmin path that previously included your site's
virtual host name will not change yet. As we are able we will try
to coordinate the shortening from site.ndsu.edu to just "site."
It will require changing any links to files or inserted images in
your content, which is why we won't make this change during the
initial go live
- A redirect is installed so that people who visit your site at
site.ndsu.edu will be automatically redirected to
www.ndsu.edu/site
- You should update any Web references to the old URL and
should not print it in any publications. Instead you should
use the new www.ndsu.edu/site
- The redirect will be available for approximately 1 year.
After the expiration, the entire domain site.ndsu.edu will be
removed and visitors will see a "Server not found" error if
they attempt to connect to your site using the site.ndsu.edu
address
- The selectable templates and other www.ndsu.edu only features
are available
