Detailed description
The target attribute is removed from contents in TYPO3, technically preventing any open in new window behavior at all. Entries created with the target attribute before this cleaning definition was added will retain the attribute until the next time they are saved. Sheree would like to open a new, sized, window. This would probably require a gracefully-failing Javascript solution. Reported by Sheree Kornkven: I was just wondering if we can do anything like have a specific sized window with extra information about a term or phrase launch when clicked. This would be extra information about something. We have so much information to relate, and we're trying to find ways to make our site less cluttered. We can already make a new page launch in a new window; I'm just wondering if we can resize the page.

Date: 2008-01-03 14:17 Sender: Jill Peterson TYPO3 has several extensions to integrate Flash-based MP3 players as content elements. For this particular application, typo3.org/documentation/document-library/extension-manuals /fe_mp3player/0.2.3/view/ (which uses Jeroen Wijering's standalone MP3 player) looks like it fits the bill best. Other MP3 players that have been integrated are typo3.org/documentation/document-library/extension-manuals /ameos_dewplayer/1.0.1/view/ and typo3.org/documentation/document-library/extension-manuals /wec_flashplayer/1.3.1/view/ . Ideally, there would be a Flash player that accommodates single MP3s, MP3 playlists, and video with one player. I don't see one integrated with TYPO3 yet, but integration should be straightforward if a player could be found. Such a player must have a GPL license.

I warned that at this time we cannot reliably identify the three and that even when we can, there is no overlap available. They concede to go without this feature for now - "Persistent" thumbnails (selecting a thumbnail shows higher quality, while still keeping the "thumbnail browser" available) - Category pull-downs to "jump" to another category easily - Search - Full display to include a description - Variable qualities with friendly names, e.g. "low/web, high/print"

How to handle included images/media? Should keep a copy? Or reference original location? Keep in mind that pages use Base URL (<base href="www.ndsu.edu/" />) which may have interesting implications on generated links--use TYPO3 APIs to deal with links, not hand-made links, to avoid this. To reduce spam, enable a captcha insertion with regular mail forms. The captcha should be accessible ( www.w3.org/TR/turingtest/ ), which presents a steep challenge because it must allow * Blind visitors * Deaf visitors * Visitors with cognitive disabilities * Visitors without a mouse * Visitors with only a mouse (on-screen keyboard) * Visitors with motion disabilities (inability to manipulate the mouse to move accurately in small areas) * Visitors from foreign countries who may not be familiar with our NDSU lingo if the captcha requires sight, hearing or the ability to solve "challenges" Some possibilities that *may* be worth investigating * www.thespanner.co.uk/2007/04/13/accessible-captchas/ * www.standards-schmandards.com/2005/captcha/ An option is also to require log-in to submit the form. While the option to allow only certain people, or certain kinds of people (like staff) to submit is not yet available, it should eliminate the ability for bots to get at the forms. Of course this is only an option for forms that can assume only persons that already have an NDUS identity/password would want to complete the form.

The URL does not reflect the fact that NDSU as a whole is probably not the right target for these news feeds. A minor bug was filed on 4/25/08 at bugs.typo3.org/view.php , which confirms my findings that the URL is "hard coded" to match the domain. Use international-friendly date format in pages

Detailed description
Update automatically generated visible dates in pages to use a more international friendly date format. Such a format change would reflect the fact that NDSU is a diverse community and enhance understanding for visitors who do not use the US m-d-y format and do not know if 03/04/02 means the 3rd of April 2002, the 4th of March 2002, or April 2nd 2003. It was lightly suggested by some in VPUR that this would be desirable for their news (It's Happening) but it should be applied across the board as a CMS template configuration. Dates would be entered the same in the backend, but would automatically reflect the new format in the frontend by the template rendering. If Jane, a page visitor from Uruguay, views a news article in It's Happening, the Published Date would appear like 31 Dec 2008 13:46 instead of 12-31-08 13:46 Reference www.useit.com/alertbox/20050808.html

Detailed description
Provide a filemount for authors to consume standard graphics files or other campus documents (maps, for example). It would be read only to authors (that is, they do not get to modify what files are available in this frequently used files area). Doing this would reduce the number of copies of these files distributed all over the place, and give authors an "out" when they are "required" to use these official files but are out of quota space. It is a more efficient use of disk space, as well. When CMS author, Bob, browses the Filelist, he sees a directory called ndsu_share in the file tree. When he expands the view, he sees files including the NDSU logo and the most recent version of the NDSU Campus Map PDF.

The actual need is to design another news template that includes images. Assuming the www.ndsu.edu/itshappening/ news list uses this new template, when a visitor opens the page they will see a thumbnail of the first image from the news article image relations field. All news articles that have a related image will have a thumbnail in the list preview. All news articles that have no image in the relations field will have no thumbnail. Also, it would be nice to have some way to create some sort of separation between sections of the form so the fields don't all run together (or be able to assign a "fieldset" to each section that displays the "wrapper box" around a group of fields...unless I missed where that option was). It would be extremely beneficial to be able to monitor page usage to learn how users are actually using the site and either raise visibility of low-view pages or make adjustments to site organization and/or presentation of lead-in links. Also, under the previous instance of site statistics there was a limit as to how may pages/directories registered statistics ("Top 30" or "Top 25%"). Please consider a solution that will provide stats for as many site pages as possible. It would be equally informative to know which pages are not being viewed by users.

Please consider developing a way to "flag" content areas for exclusion from the Print display. An example of common content areas that could be flagged for exclusion would be page navigation links ([Back|Home|Next] links included at bottom of page) and "A-Z Index" jump menus for pages with alphabetically separated content areas. Such content areas only serve a purpose to the screen display and are basically irrelevant to the Print display. It would be nice to have an On/Off setting to assign print visibility to a selected content area. (Not sure if this available in the back-end functionality or not. If not, maybe a new "No Print" paragraph setting similar to the "Tip/Warning/Note" options can be applied where there's no visible change to the Screen display but a "display:none" setting is applied to the Print display of the CSS.)

For the default NDSU template, breadcrumb menus are "hard coded" to be rooted immediately under NDSU based on the assumption that any given site is located immediately under www.ndsu.edu on the WWW. However, the real-life relationship might be different. For example, Enterprise Computing & Infrastructure www.ndsu.edu/eci breadcrumb currently looks like NDSU > ECI but might be better rooted under the virtual path NDSU > VPIT > ECI This doesn't necessarily need to be political/reporting paths, this example just worked out that way. Objective - Create a facility so that site owners can "inject" added or alternative roots to the breadcrumb menu to better contextualize NDSU Web. They should be able to define the visual text, the given name, and the WWW address for each link so that the resulting link, in the case of VPIT, might look like <a href="http://www.ndsu.edu/vpit/" title="Vice President for Information Technology">VPIT</a> to keep the menu short but still provide relevant information to visitors. Note that breadcrumb menus are not available at all for the VPs template and this request is not intended to imply that should change.

Enable embedding of NDSU Calendar events to CMS page

Detailed description
Create a plugin type that will enable authors to select a calendar view (meaning configure the calendar filters to display a reduced set of events) for display in a CMS page. Suggested configuration options 1) choice of { upcoming events view | today's events view } 2) choice of display { 3 event titles and location/time | 4 event titles and location/time | 5 event titles and location/time | 10 event titles, titles only } 3) Paste URL from calendar (preferable to check menus that create the filter in CMS, so that CMS and Event Calendar don't need to be synced) For an in-page result along the lines of: == { Upcoming | today's } Events == * [Event title 1] 10am Century Theater * [Event title 2] 1pm Prairie Room * [Event title 3] through 2/28 Art Gallery

Add cache control headers to pages

Detailed description
Since these would be added on a per-template basis, add cache control headers to the www.ndsu.edu and *.ndus.edu templates. With cache control headers in place, CMS system load might be reduced as a result of cutting the frequency that visitors re-download pages. This comes at the expense of needing to reload the page (or clear cache, or close the browser as one might do at the end of each work day) to see new versions of pages, when/if they are changed. User training would need to be adjusted to remind them to click the refresh/reload button to see the new version of pages if the new version does not display at the first attempt. They probably already reload the page when they make changes, but in the event they don't, this reminder is needed.

[#616] Enable news to create two+ separate news lists and/or RSS feeds

Enable news to create two+ separate news lists and/or RSS feeds

Detailed description
This can be accomplished by using tt_news categories. Thus, a person can create a link to a categorized news page that displays only news articles having that category type. Further, because some business units may focus this priority externally to their Web home page, use the category definition to surface RSS feeds filtered by categories. For example, if there are 10 news articles in site XYZ's Articles folder, currently the site news page displays all 10 articles. If 5 articles have the category "red," 3 have the category "blue" and 2 have both categories, the categories page for "red" will display the 7 articles categoriezed as red, and the categories page for "blue" will display the 5 articles categorized as blue. Further, there there is an RSS feed which displays only the 7 red articles and a separate RSS feed which displays only the 5 blue articles.
