Mark Lande received a B.S. in Accounting in 1974, and a master’s degree in the same field in 1979 from the University of North Dakota. He is a CPA with experience in municipal government, public accounting, residential real estate development and public broadcasting. He served as the controller for Prairie Public Broadcasting, Inc. for 20 years prior to joining the Center for Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) in October 2004 as Finance Specialist. His responsibilities included financial reporting, development of financial policies and procedures, financial projections, accounting and supervision of the accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, purchasing, property management and receiving functions.

Lande’s responsibilities as controller for Prairie Public included accounting and financial reporting, management of the accounting staff, budgeting, accounting systems design, cash flow planning, banking, human resources and tax return preparation. He reported to the president and the board of directors and guided the organization to a significantly improved financial condition by emphasizing budget driven decision-making.

Lande was promoted to Assistant Director for Administrative and Financial Services in December 2006. His role includes responsibilities for administrative operations; managing financial and administrative aspects of CNSE research programs; and developing and communicating operational compliance standards, policies and procedures to staff. He was named Interim Director in December 2011.
