POSITION DESCRIPTION
North Dakota State University’s Department of Communication, a Ph.D.-producing department in Fargo, ND, (area population is 144,691) with undergraduate majors in Management Communication; PR & Advertising; Health Communication; Agricultural Communication; and Journalism, Broadcasting & Mass Communication Technologies invites applications for three tenure-track assistant professors at $55,000 plus $16,459 in benefits including a medical plan that the university pays in full.
Applicants with a completed doctorate in any area of communication by August 15, 2008, receive full pay. If the doctorate is not complete until January 1, 2009, the applicant will receive reduced pay in the Fall Semester. All applicants must have the doctorate completed by January 1, 2009, or their appointment reverts to a terminal, nine-month appointment.
New faculty members have a 2/2 teaching opportunity with one semester of no classes during the probationary period. New faculty can propose new classes and develop new areas. New faculty members receive a minimum of $1,600 for travel to deliver refereed conference papers. New faculty members may have a mentor inside or outside the department to help them advance as teachers and researchers. Applicants should show evidence of good teaching evaluations from students and/or supervisors, and they should demonstrate a commitment to research with refereed conference papers or publications. The university provides some funding for research projects.
