I graduated from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich., in 1988 with a B.A. in Communications. In 2007, I earned my master’s degree in Communication at NDSU, and am now serving as the Department of Communication broadcast program director. I am also the faculty advisor to BIN (Bison Information Network), the student-run campus television station.
I am currently the radio play-by-play announcer for the Fargo Force of the United States Hockey League on 101.9 Talk FM.
In 1989, I was hired as sports director/anchor at KCWT TV in Wenatchee, Wash. In 1991, I worked as a freelance sports reporter for TSN (ESPN of Canada) and Prime Sports Northwest (now Root Sports in Seattle). In 1995, I was hired as a sports reporter/anchor for WDAY TV ABC Channel 6 in Fargo. My 20-year television sportscasting career includes working as a radio play-by-play announcer for the FM Beez of the CBA Basketball league.
My career included working at KVLY TV Channel 11 in Fargo as weekend sports anchor and working for a year as a news reporter for KVLY TV 11. In 2003, I was promoted to sports director/anchor of KXJB TV CBS Channel 4 in Fargo. My television sports experience includes play-by-play and color commentating for the North Dakota High School Hockey State Tournament, and sideline reporter/host for North Dakota NBC Network’s high school basketball and football state tournament coverage.
This fall, I will teach COMM 112: Understanding Media & Social Change and COMM 345: Principles of Broadcast Production. I will teach COMM 345: Principles of Broadcast Production, COMM 346: Sports Broadcasting and COMM 445: Advanced Broadcast Production in the spring.
