Marlys Borkhuis, M.S., LPC
Assistant Director; Counselor; Outreach Coordinator; Training Coordinator
My name is Marlys K. Borkhuis and I am the Assistant Director at the NDSU Counseling Center, as well as serving as the Outreach and Training Coordinator. My professional credentials include being a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Social Worker in North Dakota. I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Child Development from North Dakota State University as well as my Master’s degree from NDSU in Counseling.
I loved being at NDSU as a student, and after having worked for a mental health center for about 10 years, I was thrilled to return to SU. I am very happy to have the opportunity to work with NDSU students who would like to learn more about or explore personal or relationship issues. I have a lot of experience in working with depression, anxiety, family issues, and eating disorders.
I especially enjoy working with people when they are going through a time of growth. I think that even at the worst of times in our life there is something to be learned about ourselves, there is good to be gotten out of the situations. Sometimes it takes a lot of work to get there, but it is so worth it when you do.
I have quite a bit of family in North Dakota, and I share my life with my Irish Setter, Finnegan.
