Emerging Issues in Science: The Basics of Nanotechnology (P-12)
This 3-credit continuing education graduate course has been carefully designed to provide basic background knowledge around an emerging issue in science – nanotechnology, as well as its theoretical base. Through this topic, we will also integrate the emerging topics of: The STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) Initiatives and 21st Century Skills. The course will provide introductory information and readings on the topic of nanotechnology that will be helpful to teachers and/or citizens interested in keeping abreast of changes in our world. The course will provide exemplary classroom activities and websites, as well as power points with accompanying notes and activities to the end that these strategies will positively affect student achievement. Course methodology will include a review of relevant research, power point lecture, resource study, and cooperative shared learning. Lots of ideas, materials, activities and strategies will be presented, shared, analyzed and evaluated to the end that the students of participants will benefit from higher achievement scores in science.
