Across the Spectrum: Teaching Students with Autism

EDUC 600

Finally, a course specifically designed to help you work with students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Participants will explore the following important components: characteristics and types of ASD, the role of assistive technology, intervention models, proven instructional approaches, parent involvement techniques, and available support services.

Objectives:

As a result of this participation in this course, students should:

 l.  Gain knowledge and understanding of the five types of ASD

2.  Incorporate an intervention model into a classroom lesson plan

3.  Understand how to effectively use assistive technology in the classroom

4.  Gain the ability to recognize the symptoms and presentations of ASD

5.  Analyze instructional approaches for ASD students
