Key Technology Strategies

EDUC 600

Technology integration has an impact on student learning when essential conditions are in place in the classroom and in teacher preparation. This course is designed to assist teachers on how to effectively incorporate technology into their curriculum by making the connection between effective research-based instructional strategies and the technologies that support them. The research behind these strategies will be examined. Using four planning questions for instruction, this course will guide teachers in aligning their curriculum, instruction, and assessment with the most appropriate and effective technologies. As pedagogy shifts from static, text-based learning to teacher as a facilitator of collaborative learning, new standards for teacher behaviors and responsibilities will be required. These standards called the NETS will be identified and applied to a teacher's professional growth.

Objectives:

As a result of participation in this course, students should:

  1. Perform a self-assessment of current technology proficiency and articulate a personal growth plan.
  2. Evaluate the research on the influence technology integration has on student learning.
  3. Design and conduct a lesson plan where students are allowed to create their own learning goal using organizational or communication software.
  4. Use a technology-based formative assessment tool as a means for students to provide feedback following a lesson.
  5. Utilize an electronic resource to personalize student recognition.
  6. Incorporate the use of an advance electronic organizer before a learning activity to help students focus on learning.
  7. Design and utilize a classroom activity utilizing digital nonlinguistic representation of content.
  8. Create and teach a lesson where students summarize a written assignment utilizing one of the several technology-based note-taking formats.
  9. Incorporate multimedia, web-resources, or communication software into a classroom cooperative learning activity.
  10. Choose a spreadsheet or data collection tool and incorporate it into a classroom project.
  11. Utilize a graphic organizer to facilitate the process of identifying similarities and differences in a lesson.
  12. Facilitate student homework and practice by demonstrating knowledge of resources for learning outside of the classroom.
  13. Provide evidence of a technology based structured task taught to students for the generation and testing of a hypotheses.
  14. Utilize the NETS rubrics and a technology self-assessment tool in a professional growth plan.
