Bullying Beyond the Schoolyard

EDUC 600

This course offers a complete beginning to end review of developing to implementing effective anti-bullying policy.  It provides current research in the factors and myths that create a bully/victim relationship.   Throughout the course, you will compile strategies and resources to combat bullying.  You will also examine reporting procedures and requirements for both students and school personnel.  Finally, you will create lessons or tools that help students develop healthy relationships.

Objectives:

As a result of this participation in this course, students should:

  • Analyze the current research in the area of bullying;
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the facts about bullying/victimization;
  • Examine theories that may explain why some children have difficulty initiating and maintaining relationships;
  • Consider bullying as a social relationship problem;
  • Evaluate how the different facets of bullying are addressed in their school;
  • Examine the impact of technology on student relationships;
  • Incorporate specific strategies creating a positive educational environment students;
  • Generate ideas for developing a healthy climate in school.
