Twitter 101 eCourse

Leveraging Web 2.0 tools is a powerful learning strategy in the 21st Century. But how do you choose the right tool that will enhance classroom learning and not be an afterthought or add on? This course is part of the Web 2.0 Tools Series, which will address the relationship between content, pedagogy, and technology while covering the nuts and bolts of each tool and how to use each within the context of your classroom. This course will focus on how to use Twitter as an educational professional and classroom educator.

Objectives:

Participants will:

  • Understand what is a tweet and what information should be shared
  • Recognize the importance and how-to use hashtags
  • Have a Twitter name and profile that match their personal brand
  • Know which Twitter applications are best suited to their needs
  • Develop a twitter management plan for when/how often to tweet
  • Be able to discuss the importance of branding and creating the right twitter name
  • Know how-to create and participate in a twitter chat
  • Explain the value for using Twitter as an educational professional
  • Know how-to enhance curriculum with activities and lessons that include tweeting with students

Course components:

  • Participate in weekly webinars (or provide written summary of the recorded version)
  • Participate in a one hour Twitter chat on Standardized Testing and submit a Twitter Chat summary report
  • Participate in asynchronous Twitter discussions within the PLP online community
  • Create a Twitter account, add a profile picture and bio (personal brand)
  • Develop a Twitter management plan for how-to use Twitter as an educational professional or with colleagues, students, and/or parents
  • Create a lesson that incorporates the use of Twitter
  • Complete course survey
