Developing Character Through Positive Teen Habits

EDUC 600

This course is designed for teachers of intermediate grade levels into high school.  The required text for this course is The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Covey.  Course participants will gain knowledge of core habits that teens can use to become successful in school life and beyond.  The participants will be asked to write lesson plans to reinforce the topics in various chapters, review on-line articles on organizational and self improvement topics, write a personal mission statement, and write classroom goals.  Other topics to be covered include organizational skills, goal setting, good listening skills, cooperation, evaluating habits, generosity, and optimism. All of the topics presented will assist teachers in raising student achievement, an indirect result of good organizations skills in students.

Goals & Objectives:

Upon completion of this course the teacher will be able to:

  1. Design lesson plans that teach students to become proactive in successful life skills.
  2. Identify good habits for students to possess.
  3. Guide all students to be proactive and see the social benefits.
  4. Identify the academic benefits of good organizational skills in students.
  5. Assist students in developing a personal mission statement.
