FAQ

Q: Can I take a degree online if I am in the United States on a VISA?

Depending on the type of non-immigrant VISA you have.  Some types of non-immigrant VISAs will allow you to take one online/distance-based class per semester.  Others will allow you to take a fully online program.  Some general information is listed below; however, we suggest you check with the NDSU Office of International Programs regarding your specific VISA.

If you have...

H1 VISA - You can take a fully online program.

H4 VISA - You can take a fully online program.

F1 VISA - You can take up to 3 credits of online coursework each semester.

J1 VISA (student category) - You can take up to 3 credits of online coursework each semester.

If there are any questions or doubts as to how many online classes you may be eligible for, please contact your international student or faculty immigration advisor.
