Using the Pool Manager to Create Question Sets

The Pool Manager can be used to create sets of questions that can be used over and over again for quizzes, exams and surveys. Using questions from a Pool, new exams, quizzes or surveys can be created in just a few minutes.

To create a new question pool:

  1. Login to Blackboard and navigate to your course.

  3. Select Control Panel from the navigation bar.

  5. Select Pool Manager.

  7. Select the Add Pool button.

  9. Complete the Name, Description and Instructions textboxes.
    • Name is the title of the pool.
    • Description is for details related to the questions that will be included in the pool. Example: "These are True/False questions from Chapter 1 of the History 101 course."
    • Instructions are the information that you or another instructor may need for using the questions in a survey or exam. The instructions provided here are NOT available to students. You can leave this field blank, if you wish.

  11. Scroll to the bottom of the page to select the Submit button.

  13. On the next screen, you will see the list of questions currently contained in the pool that you just created. This first view, it will be empty.

  15. In the gray area near the top of the screen, you will see a dropdown menu of question type options. Choose a question type from this menu.

  17. Select the Go button.

  19. Complete the question and its options on the next screen(s), choosing appropriate options as listed.

  21. Select the Submit button to complete the question and add it to the pool.


  22. Repeat steps 7 through 11 until the pool is complete.
