This seminar will provide the participant with a broader understanding of the lignite coal industry and the important role it plays in providing electricity to consumers, farmers and businesses in North Dakota, Minnesota, South Dakota and Montana. Discussions on how lignite coal is mined and converted into energy, and the economic impact of the industry on the region including a tour of a lignite mine, a lignite-based power plant and the Great Plains Synfuels Plant are featured.
We want teachers to:
- learn the importance of the lignite industry in this region; the huge economic impact it provides to this state with the number of jobs it provides and the well-paying jobs it provides;
- to take what they learn back to their students and encourage them to look at jobs in this industry. There are a large number of industry employees retiring in the next 5 to 10 years so there will be job openings.
The Lignite Energy Council will pay all expenses for teachers including the cost of the graduate credits. Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the seminar is full. A $60 check must be forwarded to the Lignite Energy Council, PO Box 2277, Bismarck, ND 58502 after you have completed the application form. Your check will be returned to you when you check in for the seminar on June 16th. It is used to hold your place in the seminar and will only be deposited if you do not show up for the seminar and do not let us know at least two weeks in advance. If you send an application with a $60 deposit after the 130 openings have been filled, we will return the deposit and notify you that you have not been selected to attend the 2014 seminar. The application can be found at http://www.lignite.com/?id=122.
