This course provides a comprehensive guide to infusing multicultral education into the classroom. The course shows how teachers can actively involve their students in projects that promote academic excellence and cultural understanding, involve multiple intelligences, and involve the community. As our classrooms (and communities) become more culturally diverse, it is essential that teachers be trained, knowledgeable, and comfortable teaching in such environments. Many teachers are thrown into a diverse classroom and expected to inherently know how to help all children learn, build students' self esteem, and promote respect for diversity. This course provides usable tools and strategies that can help teachers accomplish these important objectives.
The participant will:
1. Learn strategies to help diverse learners achieve in a variety of subject areas.
2. Describe why multicultural education is essential in today's society.
3. Learn strategies to help all students become respectful and knowledgeable of other cultures.
4. Create activities that integrate multicultural learning and course strategies into their classrooms.
