Course Description:

Do you find your students are bored, inattentive, or disengaged during the day?  This course will give you the tools to help your students lock in on learning.  Based on current research, the text offers specific short and long term strategies to keep your students highly engaged.  The ideas presented help students create a strong sense of self-efficacy.  In short, this class gives you the blue print to make your classroom a place of learning, high energy, positive feelings, and even fun.

Objectives:

As a result of this participation in this course, students should:

  • Analyze the current research in the area of student engagement;
  • Generate activities that stimulate a students positive attitude toward learning;
  • Assess strengths and weaknesses in the area of student engagement;
  • Incorporate structured models that will extend student interest beyond the classroom;
  • Synthesize activities and lessons to be taught in the classroom;
  • Consider alternative ways to motivate students;
  • Examine ideas for developing student self-efficacy;
  • Incorporate specific strategies creating a positive educational environment for ASD students;
  • Generate ideas for collaboration with other school staff.

Shawn Gallagher

Shawn Gallagher earned his M.A. in Education from St. Mary's State University in Winona, MN. Shawn has a B.S. in Elementary Education from St. Cloud State University. Shawn has over 17 years of experience teaching 3rd and 4th graders.
