Course Description:

The purpose of this course is to understand the structure of intelligence.  This course focuses on how children learn by enrichment through incorporating their unique abilities in the important process of developing skills in learning. The importance of nutrition, social support, managed stress levels, physical activity and emotional and physical reciprocity will provide a benefit to how children learn and how we can help them.


As a result of participation in this course, students will:

  • Be able to learn about the brain, its effect on learning and how this knowledge can be transferred and applied in helping students be successful in the classroom.
  • Be able to learn the risk and enriching factors that can help all students, not just the gifted and high achieves, be motivated and successful in acquiring knowledge in the classroom.
  • Be able to learn about activities, simulations and other enhancing activities that can enrich the brain.


The required reading is found in the text and a series of articles on the Internet.

Dewey Walsh

Dewey J. Walsh, Ed.D. was a public school teacher and guidance counselor for 34 years. Dewey taught graduate-level professional education classes through Moorhead State University, Moorhead, MN for 10 years and the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN, for 26 years. Dewey was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota where he attended the University of North Dakota, earning a B.S. &  M.A. in Education and a Doctorate in Teacher Education.
