Why a paperless classroom? Is it possible? The answer to both questions is yes and the time is now. The resources are available and free: From the ever increasing number of Web 2.0 tools, the vast amount of cloud storage and the internet at our finger tips 24/7, paper is becoming obsolete. In this course you learn the concepts of a paperless classroom through two Web 2.0 tools, Evernote and Google Apps. From this stating point, your students can share almost all classwork with you and each other in a collaborative method. Through the course other useful Web 2.0 tools are presented, discovered and shared. P-12 teachers are further encouraged as they learn new ways to increase student achievement in the classroom. All educators will find new ways to reach student with special needs as well as useful projects that can be used to meet educational and technology objectives and help students’ master content area learning standards.
Upon completion of this course the student will:
- Value the role of a paperless classroom
- Appreciate the worth of Web 2.0 tools
- See “The Cloud” as a valuable collaboration tool
During this course participants will:
- Create an Evernote account and install the application. Read the Evernote Notes document. Add the Clipper and Clearly add on to your favorite browser. Find your Evernote email address. Create a notebook in Evernote called paperless classroom. Take a screen shot of the web browser with the add ons and save it in your paperless notebook. Send an email using your Evernote account and have it save directly to the paperless notebook.
- Research the internet for five different paperless classroom topics from a reliable source. Use Evernote to collect your research. What is reliable? Consider the source, grammar, spelling, video and sound quality, but all these aside, does it work for you? Write a paragraph each on how you could use this in your classroom.
- Find five different ways (apps/web 2.0 tools) to collaborate with your students. Use Evernote to collect your research. From these five, pick one and redesign a lesson/project/homework/quiz/etc… using the tool. Find a tool that works for you, do not try to make a “cool” tool fit. Summarize the other four tools you found, one paragraph each. Briefly explain the tool and its classroom uses. When answering, always consider: how does this make you a better teacher, learner, person?

About The Instructor
For the past seventeen years, Jim has been working in a high school environment with teachers and students while running his own business, Computer Training and Repair. Jim has received a Master's in Education, as well as an M.B.A. from the University of Minnesota.
A minimum $20 processing fee will be assessed per person for cancellations received after the start of the course. Refunds are not issued after the start of the course or after access to the course has been provided.
