Teachers will be introduced to an art-and-literature-based approach to writing that allows students to become proficient in two languages: the language of pictures and language of words. Read more http://www.picturingwriting.org/ Utilizing simple crayon resist techniques and quality picture books, teachers experience a language rich process that addresses learning standards while engaging students in a series of interdisciplinary, project-based units of study. This proven method is particularly engaging and effective for reluctant writers and struggling readers. Join Beth Olshansky, developer of Picturing Writing: Fostering Literacy Though Art and Image-Making With The Writing Process and author of The Power of Pictures: Creating Pathways to Literacy Through Art (Jossey-Bass, 2008) and Director of the Center for the Advancement of Art-Based Literacy at the University of New Hampshire.
