Discover appropriate learning strategies based on research of Brain-based learning. Current practices related to this research will be explored in detail. The learning outcomes of taking this course will be that student achievement gains will be realized based on the implementation of five specific brain-based practices.
As result of participation in this course, participation should know and understand:
- The knowledge and understanding of current literature about the brain and brain research as it relates to teaching and student achievement.
- The knowledge and understanding of current brain learning theory and underlying principles and concepts.
- The knowledge and understanding of related issues such as multiple intelligences and how these can be used to help learners learn.
- The knowledge and understanding of the myths and realities of sex differences as they relate to the brain and how these findings can be used to facilitate classroom instruction.
- The knowledge and understanding of the brain and its relationship to creativity, memory, emotion and stress and how teachers can use these findings to help themselves and their learners.
- The knowledge and understanding of the mystique and mystery of the brain.
- How to select activities to implement in the classroom that coincide with the brain concepts discussed in related course modules.
- How to read brain related topics of their choice (self selection of knowledge-based options and online searches) and cite any implications for teaching and learning.
- How to survey students on several aspects of brain compatible teaching.
- How to analyze their teaching in relation to the elements of brain compatible learning and teaching and select several concepts to work on to improve themselves to make their teaching more brain compatible.
- The knowledge and understanding of how the brain processes information by learning the critical components of the brain that govern this function.
- The knowledge and understanding of the myths and realities of learning styles as related to current brain research and how teachers can use these findings to improve instruction.
- The knowledge and understanding of how to teach about how the brain learns to
- K-12 students so they have an understanding as to how their brain works.
- How to develop a brain compatible Mini Unit Project.
- How to develop a viable brain compatible Plan of Action.
