Diversity Council ::: Meeting Minutes ::: February 13, 2002
Present: Anderson, Boswell, Gleye, Holbrook, Jacobson, Malnourie, Okigbo, Peterson, Schnell, Slobin, Spiering, Stack, Thoennes, and Ussatis
I. Introductions and Announcements
A. "Keeping our Faculties" conference is April 21-23 at the University of Minnesota -
finalize with Sandy if you are planning to attend.
B. Professional Issues Related to GLBT People and Their Families conference in Fargo
on Friday, April 12 at the Holiday Inn. If interested, you can register through
Continuing Education or Kara has registration forms.
C. Reminder: TOCAR Anti-Racism training is April 4-5.
D. Stephen Bloom, author of Postville: A Clash of Cultures in Heartland America, will
be speaking on campus at 12:30 and 7pm on Thursday, April 11.
E. Woodlands and High Plains Powwow is scheduled for Saturday, February 16 at
Concordia College.
F. This is Chinese Cultural Week and Black History Month.
G. Fort Berthold Exchange - offered through Extension in the end of May.
II. Finalize vision statement (Thoennes) -
A. A few modifications were made and the final version was approved. Sandy will
forward to Council members.
III. Organizing Our Work (Thoennes) -
A. Discussed handout from Thoennes regarding suggested sub-committees for the
council.
B. Identified membership in Climate Assessment Sub-group: Spiering, Okigbo,
Anderson and Jacobson
C. Identified membership in Webpage Development Sub-group: Slobin, Okigbo and
Stack
D. Council will work to announce new mission/vision statements and definition of
diversity

iv. In a news release from Schnell and Holbrook, including statements from
President Chapman
IV. Spring Semester Meeting Day/Time -
A. It was determined to keep the same meeting time. The location will need to
change, Holbrook will forward meeting locations for the remainder of the semester.
V. Next Meeting
A. March 6 at 7:30am in FLC 320 (note change of date due to Spring Break)
B. Proposed Agenda Items
