TOCAR Training

Feedback on the training was discussed. Most felt that NDSU was at about a "3" on
the 6-point progression scale. Some expressed appreciation and relief that the
training focused on the institution rather than the individual. It was also good to
recognized that racial prejudice exists in all of us. This offered a different perspective
for most.Sandy encouraged that if there were members of the Diversity Council who
would like to attend the 3-day training scheduled for June to let her know as soon as
possible.Next year there are plans to have another 1-day TOCAR training. It will be
important for Diversity Council members to promote this by sharing your own positive
experiences with the program.

Relationship between Diversity Council and TOCAR Anti-Racism Team

Discussion led to the decision that the Anti-Racism Team would be associated with
the Diversity Council-seen as an "arm" of the Council. (Motion by Charles, seconded
by Rita and passed.) Some of the members of the Diversity Council would be on the
Anti-racism Team. Concern was noted that the attention of the Diversity Council not
only focus on racial issues. The commitment was made that the Council would work
on all areas of diversity as stated in our Mission, Definition, and Vision statements.

Cultural Audit

A TOCAR subcommittee is developing an audit; Charles Okigbo is serving on that
subcommittee. The goal for NDSU will be to incorporate this assessment into our
cultural audit. Work on this project will continue.

Web Page

The need to work on this project was discussed. It was suggested that we hire
someone. Aaron Bergstrom was suggested as a potential student to be hired. A
brainstormed list of things to include was also developed. The ideas generated
include:

Diversity Council Logo (perhaps a tree, roots, and/or gateway)
