I. Announcements

A. Faculty replacements

i. Ann Burnett, the new Women's Studies Director, will take Slobin's place on
the Council next year

ii. Sarah Jacobson has retired, creating a new opening for a faculty
representative. Suggestions were offered for faculty and deans to represent
either the colleges of Agriculture, Business, or Science and Math. Additional
suggestions should be forwarded to Holbrook and/or Schnell.

B. "Keeping our Faculties" conference report by Slobin, Gleye, and Okigbo. They
reported on what some other campuses are doing to more actively recruit and retain
faculty of color - including web page resources and a faculty toolkit to be used in the
recruitment process first-year faculty retention seminars. It was notable that NDSU
was the only school represented from the North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana
region.

C. Holbrook announced a conference focused on recruitment of students, faculty and
staff of color hosted on November 6 and 7 at the University of Nebraska Lincoln.
Details will follow.

D. On May 14, the North Dakota Department of Labor will meet at Fargo City Hall to
talk about the new Human Rights Division. More details have been sent out by
Holbrook.

E. On Thursday, May 23, members of the Rocky Mountain Region U.S. Commission on
Civil Rights will be in Fargo and the ND advisory committee to that group will meet in
Fargo at the Radisson Hotel. More details have been sent out by Holbrook.

F. Anderson reported on a conference on diversity held in Kansas City that focused
on issues relating to deaf, hard of hearing and hearing impaired individuals and the
degree to which they are underserved.

G. Boswell announced the May 17 NDUS Diversity Council meeting (10am to 2:30pm)
at Bismarck State College.

II. Mission/Vision/Definition Statements

A. Holbrook and Schnell met with President Chapman to review the Diversity Council's
mission/vision/definition statements. He was pleased with the work done thus far and
requested that the Council work with University Relations in the fall to promote these
statements.

B. Council members also suggested taking these statements to University Senate,
Staff Senate and Student Senate in the Fall for their review.

IV. Website Update -

A. Stack talked with Aaron Bergstrom who had to decline the opportunity to work on
the web page due to academic reasons.

B. Nancy Lilleberg (ITS) forwarded the name of an experienced student web page

website subcommittee (Peterson, Holbrook and Okigbo) soon to go over ideas
brainstormed during April's meeting.

V. Cultural Audit Update -

A. Holbrook wants the subcommittee to meet over the summer and needs some
