Diversity Council ::: Meeting Minutes ::: June 12, 2002
Present: Anderson, Boswell, Burnett, Gleye, Holbrook, Kitch, Kostecki, Okigbo, Peterson, Schnell, Stack, Thoennes, Wallette, and Wigtil
I. Announcements
A. Introductions and welcome to Ann Burnett, new Women's Studies Director!
B. Holbrook announced three fall 2002 conferences relating to diversity. Council
members are asked to be thinking about attending these conferences as funding will
be available to send several to them.
i. AAC&U Diversity & Learning, October 24-27, St. Louis, MO
ii. People of Color in Predominanty While Institutions, Nov. 6-7, Lincoln, NE
iii. Prizing Diversity, Nov. 15-16, Bloomington, MN
C. TOCAR anti-racism training (Level 2) will be held this week (June 13-15) at MSUM.
Council members attending this training are: Boswell, Gleye, Holbrook, Okigbo, and
Stack
D. Update on Diversity Council web page. Stack and Peterson met with Nancy
Lilleberg and Matthew Feist from ITS. Matthew will be working with us this summer to
design the web page and a logo for the council. The expectation is that the page will
be up and running in early Fall.
II. Cultural Audit
A. Council members discussed the Transformational Tapestry Model for conducting a
cultural audit.
B. Dr. Sue Rankin, who developed the Transformational Tapestry Model, met with the
Council via telephone to explain her model and talk about the process she uses to
conduct the audit. Some campuses that Rankin has previously worked with include St.
Cloud State University and the University of Minnesota-Duluth; Rankin will forward
contact information from each of those universities to Holbrook. Rankin explained how,
as our consultant, she would work with the University throughout the process of
conducting the audit and developing recommendations. She will forward a proposed
budget to Holbrook.
III. Fall Schedules
A. Please forward your fall schedules to Holbrook as soon as possible to determine a
meeting time next year.
IV. Next Meeting
A. Wednesday, July 10 at 8am in Meinecke
B. Proposed Agenda Items
i. Think about the cultural audit - specifically
1. Who do we need to have "buy in"?
2. Who are the "key players"?
3. Suggestions/strategies to achieve "buy in"
