I. Announcements

and a play sponsored by the Theater Department.

II. Report on TOCAR Level 2 Anti-racism Training

A. Diversity Council members serving on the team (Boswell, Gleye, Holbrook, Okigbo
and Stack) shared their thoughts and reactions to the Level 2 anti-racism team
training held in June.

III. Diversity Council Web Page

A. Members of the web page subcommittee met with staff at ITS to review the
progress on the web page.

B. Council members were asked to forward suggestions to Holbrook or Stack by July
31, 2002, regarding resources and web links to be included in the web site, including:

i. NDSU Partners
(i.e., student organizations, departments, programs)

ii. External Links
(i.e., community agencies, professional organizations, etc.)

iii. Diversity Calendar items
(i.e., NDSU diversity events, community diversity events, etc.)

IV. Update on cultural audit and TOCAR assessment

A. NDSU is in the process of contracting with Sue Rankin to be the consultant for the
cultural audit. She will visit campus in early September to meet with Diversity Council
members and with Burnett's graduate students who will be conducting focus group
research for the audit.

B. Sarah Jacobson will not be available to provide assistance with the cultural audit,
as previously planned.

C. Next Steps:

i. Burnett's graduate students will coordinate IRB approval for the audit

ii. Council members were asked to identify key players from campus who
should be aware Of plans for the cultural audit. The goal is to have key
individuals and groups aware of this effort and informed about its purpose and
goals. Some groups identified include: the President's Cabinet, the President's
Council, the Dean's Council, University and Staff Senates, Student
Government, and Department Chairs (at August in-service or another of the
Chairs' Forums). We can work with University Relations staff to provide
information about the audit for the campus community through It's Happening
at State, the Spectrum, the President's State of the University address and
special announcements (listservs, etc.). Faculty teaching general education
courses that meet the diversity requirement and those teaching graduate
courses related to diversity topics would also be appropriate allies to support
the audit.

D. Holbrook informed the Council that TOCAR will also be conducting an assessment
based solely on race issues as partial fulfillment of the guidelines set forth in its
Bremer Foundation Grant. She asked that Council members be aware that the
timelines for the TOCAR assessment and the NDSU cultural audit will overlap. Members
are encouraged to offer input regarding how to ensure that neither research endeavor
is negatively impacted during this process.
